Leanne Crichton Focus On Finishing Strongly

LEANNE CRICHTON has encouraged her Rangers side to get back to their top levels and deliver a result in their Petershill outing tomorrow.

Off the back of two wins in succession, the Gers have reached the business end of the season, now having just three league outings remaining before the Scottish Cup final to come at the end of May.

Speaking to the club’s official website ahead of the team’s penultimate away fixture of the campaign against Partick Thistle, she said: “At this stage of the season, you would always take the result over the performance. I am not daft when it comes to that.

“I just think for us it is three opportunities and we are not travelling far and wide, we are not on the road really. We have got three games based in Glasgow to go and play, we can keep a really good bit of consistency around our preparation with surfaces and what that looks like week to week for us.

“We have had a high-scoring game against Partick Thistle previously, with finer margins as the season has gone on.

“They have adapted, they've changed, they look a much better version of themselves, so it will be a really tough game.

“For us, we just need to go about our business really well and be ready to go and win first and foremost, and the performance bit is the bit that I would like us to try and get back to.

“I thought we played some really good football in the middle part of the season, and now it has just come to battening down the hatches and looking to try and win games.

“We have not been as free-flowing as we were, but we have been working hard this week on the training pitch to try and rectify that, so hopefully the players can take those learnings and the fact we have had a full week to prepare for the game is a real opportunity to go and execute the game plan as well as we can.”

The former Scotland international has urged her side to grab the chance in front of them in the final weeks of the campaign. Despite the title being out of their own hands currently, they are still right in the picture with three games remaining, before having a chance to retain their Scottish Cup crown come the 31st of the month.

She added: “It is about staying fit and keeping yourself ready to perform. Ultimately, that is what it is; it is not now about training and learning new things.

“It is not about reinventing the wheel; it is about being game-ready and ready to go and perform over the course of 90 or 120 minutes.

“The players have been good at that this season so far. There have been a few setbacks, but there is no point in us worrying about those moments.

“We still have a real amount of control over the season; it is about embracing the opportunity as well because I think we can overlook.

“It is an unbelievable opportunity we have got to finish the season really strong, and that will be the focus for us, because the positivity amongst the group, where we are, the belief that we have in ourselves.

“It is absolutely there, and I feel that these next three games we can absolutely win, and then that puts the pressure on elsewhere, and if we can finish the season doing that and we don't need to look at anywhere else other than at ourselves, we will have done ok.”
