Li Mengwen Hopeful Of Bringing A Winning Mentality

NEW SIGNING Li Mengwen is hopeful of bringing her winning mentality to achieve success at Rangers.

The China international makes the move as a free agent after most recently featuring on loan at West Ham from former side Brighton, as she joins from the WSL club on a one-year deal.

Speaking to RangersTV for the first time since making the move to Scotland, she commented: “We had a meeting that lasted almost two hours, to show me how professional Rangers and the club is.

“They analysed my data and everything. Showing me my position in the team and I am very happy and looking forward to being here and to start the games.

“From the meeting we share ambitions and for me I want to take my quality and ability to help the team and achieve our goals, of course we want to win trophies.

“Winning silverware helping? Yes definitely, it is like a winning mentality and champions mentality.

“This is what leads me as an athlete and also as a group member in the team.

“I will bring that mentality and work ethic to the club to achieve our goal of trophies as well.”

The defender spoke of her journey in the game so far, panning a long career in her homeland whilst also competing at the highest level for both club and country.

She continued: “I played for Jiangsu since I was young, I was there for around 12 years. Then three years ago I went to PSG then Brighton then West Ham.

“I am very pleased about adventuring abroad so I want to continue my adventure here.

“I like to be challenged and I like to step out of my comfort zone.

“Every time I go abroad whatever club, country or city it is I am very excited and actually getting to explore.

“I like the relationship with players and people and I want to learn and explore everything. I feel like football brings me to all of the world.”

“Champions League? The memory that brings is very exciting. The Champions League that is why I am here and we will try get into the Champions League again.

“WSL? It is very competitive; I am consistent in my work and want to show my ability on the pitch.

“Not only on the pitch but also off it. I think I adapted very well and I played quite a lot of minutes there.

“I had two seasons with Brighton but also with West Ham. I think my qualities defensively and also in attack I want to bring that experience here as well.

“It is my honour deeply from the bottom of my heart. I am very proud that I can represent my country.

“That is what I want to keep improving and being competitive so I have I am in the best condition to represent my country again.”

“It is just memories that are the best experience that I can say. I can hardly use words to describe it, especially using English.

“I hope I can learn more English to describe that feeling. I want to work harder and give my national team the best.”

The 30-year-old gave Gers fans a glimpse of what they can expect to see when she gets the opportunity to pull on the jersey, as she shared her excitement to get going.

She added: “I will be very aggressive on the defensive side in one v one duals. Also attacking wise I want to assist my teammates and operate the wing.

“I feel really welcomed and my teammates have made it very easy for me to be here.

“To be honest I can't wait to just get training with them already.”
