Lizzie Arnot: Patience Was The Key

LIZZIE ARNOT believes patience was key as Rangers returned to league business in impressive style with a 3-0 win over Hearts this evening.

The Light Blues were dominant throughout at Broadwood Stadium and lead by a goal for long spells after a second Chelsea Cornet header in as many games before strikes from the winger Arnot and substitute Libby Bance rounded off the scoring.

Speaking to RangersTV after bagging the second of the evening, the 28-year-old feels the Gers were deserved winners on the night as they continued on from booking their place in the Scottish Cup final with another assured display.

She said: “Do you feel patience was key tonight? Yes 100 per cent.

“We know Hearts can be hard to break down but we will always back ourselves to create chances and it is just about us being patient and being calm.

“It is nice to get an earlyish goal but it always settles us to get a second and then a third as well which was great.

“I think it was a really dominant performance from us. The squad showed real good energy right from the start until the end and I think we deserved the win.”

The Gers number 15 dispatched the ball well with her left foot into the bottom corner to give the hosts breathing space on the night as she credited midfielder Rachel Rowe for the assist and the backline for helping the team claim a second clean sheet on the bounce.

She continued: “I was just looking to get forward, saw the space and credit to Rowey she held off the pass in perfect timing just to slide it through and I can take it first time and it was good to see it hit the back of the net.

“How important are clean sheets in games like tonight? Definitely, credit to everyone especially the back three and Vic [Esson].

“They were great again tonight and I think it is massive for us just to build on that going forward it is huge.

The attacker feels everyone has a part to play if the squad are to achieve further success in the coming weeks as Jo Potter’s side can now start preparing for a huge final Old Firm clash of the season this Monday lunchtime.

She added: “Everyone has played their part this season. If that is starting, coming off, even when players don’t get minutes they are working hard in training continuously and that is huge for everyone and you can see that.

“When players come on they are making an impact and that is credit to everyone and the staff as well for keeping confidence high and making everyone feel part of it and that is a real togetherness we have in the squad.

“It is always good games to play in. We just want to build on the last few results this week and it is just important that we recover and we go again.”
