Mark Hateley and John Brown to attend NARSA 2025 Convention

NARSA and Rangers Football Club are delighted to announce the attendance of club legends and ambassadors Mark Hateley and John Brown at our 2025 convention in Kissimmee, Florida!

Mark Hateley

Mark played for Coventry and Portsmouth before heading to the continent, firstly to AC Milan where he scored 17 goals in 66 games for the Rossoneri, including a winner in the Milan derby, and then to Monaco where 59 appearances brought 22 goals for the Ligue 1 side.

Graeme Souness brought Mark to Rangers in the summer of 1990 and after an initial slow start at Ibrox, Hateley cemented his place in Rangers folklore with the two goals in the title decider against Aberdeen at the end of his first season.

The 1992-93 season is arguably one of Rangers most successful in the club's illustrious history, as the team went on a 44-match unbeaten run, won the treble and played in the inaugural Champions League, being just 90 minutes away from reaching the final. Mark played a huge part in the club's achievements that season with 29 goals in 54 matches and forming a deadly partnership with Ally McCoist.

Mark left Rangers in 1995 having scored a total of 87 goals in 165 appearances to join QPR and had a short loan spell at Leeds before returning to Rangers in 1997 to help the team clinch Nine in a Row, then moving on to Hull City before finishing his career by making two appearances for Ross County.

A glittering career saw Mark win a Ligue 1 title, six Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups, three Scottish League Cups and the European Under-21 Championships with England.

Mark's full England career saw him score nine goals in 32 matches.

John 'Bomber' Brown

Born in Lennoxtown, Stirlingshire, and raised in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire, Bomber's football journey began with St Mirren Boys Club before he signed for Hamilton Academical. Playing part-time while working as a welder, he made a historic impact by scoring a hat-trick as a defender in a 9-1 win over Berwick Rangers, becoming the first defender in the Scottish League to achieve this feat without any of the goals being penalties.

In 1984, Bomber moved to Dundee for £40,000, where he played in various positions, including attacking midfield. He quickly endeared himself to the Dens Park supporters with his performances, notably scoring the winning goal in a Dundee derby that ended 4-3 and eliminating Rangers from the Scottish Cup with a decisive goal in 1985. His ability to score crucial goals continued as he netted a hat-trick in a 3-2 victory over Rangers later that year.

Bomber joined Rangers in January 1988 for £350,000, fulfilling a lifelong dream as a fan of the club. For nearly a decade, he became a cornerstone of the team, known for his versatility, playing primarily as a central defender, but also filling roles as a left full-back or defensive midfielder. His combative playing style and unwavering commitment made him a fan favourite, earning him the nickname "Bomber."

During his tenure at Rangers, Brown played 278 games and scored 18 goals, helping the club dominate Scottish football. He was a first-team regular as the club won eight consecutive Scottish League championships between 1988 and 1996. His contributions were pivotal in the club's historic nine-in-a-row league title wins, a record achievement in Scottish football.

One of Bomber's standout seasons was 1992-93, where he played in 59 matches, often partnering Richard Gough in central defence. That season, Rangers won the domestic treble, embarked on a 44-game unbeaten run, and came close to reaching the final of the Champions League after defeating English champions Leeds United to qualify for the group stages. Brown’s tenacity and leadership were instrumental in these successes.

In addition to league titles, Bomber won three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups with Rangers. His final competitive match was the 1996 Scottish Cup Final, where Rangers triumphed 5-1 over Hearts at Hampden, sealing his legacy.

After retiring as a player in 1997, Bomber transitioned to coaching, initially taking charge of Rangers' Under-18s and later the reserve team. He left Rangers' coaching setup in 2006 but remained connected to football, taking managerial roles at Clyde and Dundee.
