Match Report: Rangers B Triumph over University of Stirling

RANGERS B collected another three points in the Lowland League this evening after a 5-0 win against Stirling University.

A clean sheet and a first goal from Charlie McCann followed by strikes from Robbie Ure, Charlie Lindsay and Alex Lowry saw the Gers take another win in the league campaign.

The youngsters were relentless throughout the 90 minutes of the game, creating threatening play, holding possession and making interceptions

Charlie McCann opened the scoring with his first goal less than a minute from the first whistle. The Light Blues held possession well and managed to weave in and out of a congested backline. Alex Lowry crossed to McCann at the edge of the box and his strike flew past a number of green shirts hitting the back of the net.

Stirling University began to pile on the pressure, presenting a physical challenge and pressing hard at the young Gers.

Robbie Fraser made an excellent delivery across to Cole McKinnon at the edge of the box. His strike was hit low and across the face of goal just a few inches from making it two, unfortunately, Chris McKee was just unable to connect with the ball to put it away.

Stirling Uni almost found the equaliser after Ben Davidson found the ball down the left-wing of the box, his cross was collected by Robbie McGale whose shot was wide of the post.

Within seconds of entering the pitch from substitution, Robbie Ure made it two for the youngsters. Kane Ritchie-Hosler found a pocket of space between a number of defenders and crossed the ball across the face of the goal to meet Ure who tapped it in.

The Gers did well to keep pace and intercept the visitors’ possession from there. Robbie Fraser nearly made the scoresheet again after a lovely through ball from Lowry down the left-wing of the box but his shot was hit over the crossbar.

Heading into half-time, the Gers made it three with Alex Lowry getting his first league goal of the season. After an interception from a defender inside the final third, Lowry drove into the box and challenged the stopper and calmly slot the ball into the goal.

From the second-half whistle, both sides showed hunger to keep possession. Charlie Lindsay put the fourth goal past Fry in the 51st minute of the second half. Lindsay and Ure linked up well to weave between the backline before Ure found some space to touch back to Lindsay whose powerful strike was put past the keeper.

Rangers were then awarded a free-kick 20 yards from goal after Ross McCausland was fouled from a shirt pull. Lowry stood up to take the kick but the ball was struck off the wall.

The visitors almost got a goal back after Jamie Penker had shot within the box but it was safely collected in the arms of Jay Hogarth.

Ross McCausland nearly got the fifth after a lovely strike on the edge of the box - his shot flew over the heads of the defenders but rattled off the crossbar. A few moments later, Ure got his second goal of the night after a close-range shot within a tight-knit box. The ball flew across the floor of the box and hit the post, before finding a way in making it 5-0.
