GARY McALLISTER has revealed his delight at Allan McGregor committing himself to another year at Rangers.
The goalkeeper yesterday signed a one-year extension with the Light Blues to further extend his incredible association with the club for at least one more season, and McAllister paid a special tribute to the number one for the lengths he goes to in order to ensure he is best-prepared for every challenge.
"It was a no-brainer and I think he thoroughly deserves it as well,” McAllister told today’s press conference. “He's a massive workhorse - the way he comes in here every day and his preparation for games is pretty stunning.
"All goalkeepers work extremely hard - even during my time as a player and through working at clubs, goalkeepers are different - they have a different makeup to outfield players, but Allan really is something different.
"He is meticulous in his preparation, and it is no surprise the saves he makes - whether it be first minute, last minute, against a team at the bottom of the league, at the top of the league or in a European tie - his concentration and focus is there to be seen and I think it is well deserved that he has another year."
Gers kick off the final stretch of matches this season when Cove Rangers visit Ibrox in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
McAllister is determined his men continue their superb form and explained: "That's the point that we'll emphasise to the players that there is a little mini-season with the league games and there are nice targets and things to get inspiration from in trying to go through those five fixtures well.
"But we also have the chance of getting a good run in the cup and get to Hampden on May 22. We want to finish pushing rather than just relaxing - we see winning the league as the start to something so we have got to try and build on that.
"We can't sit back and relax and it is the job of the gaffer and the coaching staff to emphasise and push the players to go and finish the season with a bit of style and try and get through the league programme without losing.
"And why can't we make a big push to get to Hampden?"
The assistant manager also gave an injury update this morning, and provided some good news on skipper James Tavernier.
He added: "It's a positive on Tav in that he is back on the grass, so that was nice to see yesterday. He is out there training on his own with the physios, so that is a big positive and he is getting closer and closer.
"Niko Katic is back on the grass which is good to hear as well and good to see."
