ROSS MCCAUSLAND is delighted to have his future settled after signing a new long-term deal at Rangers.
The winger, who has recently made a breakthrough in the first team, current contract was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but has ended any debate on where he’ll be playing his football after extending his stay at the Light Blues.
Speaking to RangersTV upon putting pen to paper to commit his future to the club, the youngster commented: “I am delighted. It was obviously something that has been going through my mind for the past year. If you look back to where I was maybe eight to 12 weeks ago I didn't expect to be in this situation.
“To go and get the deal over the line and with the new gaffer coming in, knowing that I might get chances it is a proud moment and I am delighted to be able to devote myself to stay at Rangers.”
The 20-year-old has reflected on whirlwind two months after being handed his first start in recent weeks against Livingston and has spoken on life so far under new manager Philippe Clement.
He continued: “Obviously I'd come in off the back of an international break. They had already had a few days training so I was a bit late into training.
“I had obviously come into training and done I few sessions and he had just said that as long as you keep working hard you will get your chance.
“A big thing that he always mentioned was age doesn't matter. Someone can be 17 or 35 it doesn't matter, if they are working hard and doing what they need to be doing then they will get their chance and obviously that has happened so I am grateful for it.
“I was buzzing, that was obviously my first. I was just more excited I would say. I lot of people have asked me like were you nervous and the honest truth was I didn't really feel any nerves.
“I was just more excited to go out and do well and give something to the team. To get that start and do well and end up picking up man of the match it was amazing.
“I had been working hard in training like I always do. To get that opportunity it sort of spurs you on to know that the opportunities are there. When the opportunities come up you just need to take them. I was grateful for the start and I enjoyed every minute of it.”
The forward has spoken of his initial breakthrough in the first team having been handed his chance by Steven Davis during his time as interim manager and says he is constantly learning with his first team involvements.
He added: “It all starts there. I spoke to Davis a couple of weeks back at the Northern Ireland camp. It all starts there whenever he gave me that chance against Limassol. I had the 10-15 minute spell and I did well, it was obviously a shame in the St Mirren game for Zak Lovelace who came off injured.
“That provided my chance to come on and I took my chance, obviously it has just sort of escalated from there. I would say Steven Davis' spell as interim was a big help for me as well.
“The quality round there is massive. You have got players like Jack Butland, Tav and all of them to be honest. The quality just really shoots up, I think if you are training there every day and you are learning off players like that then you are only going to get better.
“Obviously part of that comes from within as well, you need to still be working on stuff, you need to be doing extra. Ultimately you need to be taking their experience and dipping into it and using it to your advantage.”
