RANGERS came through Wednesday’s trip to Ross County unscathed on the injury-front – with Allan McGregor potentially joining the squad for Sunday’s Betfred Cup semi-final.
The Light Blues head to Hampden to face a Hearts side who will be led by caretaker boss Austin MacPhee after they parted company with Craig Levein yesterday afternoon.
Gers go into the game off the back of an excellent performance in Dingwall where they defeated County 4-0, and while McGregor missed out, he could well be involved at the National Stadium this weekend.
The manager told this morning’s press conference: “We have no new problems from Ross County – everyone has come through. Borna got a kick at the very end, but he is fine and he is fine to train this morning.
“[Allan McGregor is] improving – he will do a light session today and we will see how he reacts to that, but there has certainly been an improvement in the last 48 hours.
The change of manager at Tynecastle is something Gerrard didn’t see coming – but he reckons won’t affect Sunday’s game too much
“I’m probably surprised a little bit with the timing with it being the eve of a semi-final,” added Gerrard. “But, I think if you look at Hearts’ form, it is probably not as much of a surprise.
“But I am probably surprised a little bit at the timing. It can be brutal at times, but we are all aware it is a results business we are in.
“A club the size of Hearts, if you’ve only won one in 11, I think you are always going to be under pressure.
“It’s not really our business what is going on elsewhere and I’m not sure things will change too much – the personnel will all be the same though Austin [McPhee] might try to do something different with the formation or the tactics.
“We will have to wait and see what formation and personnel they decide to pick on the day. You have always got that challenge going into a game anyway.”
