Nathan Patterson And Jon McLaughlin Named In Scotland Squad for UEFA Euro 2020

NATHAN PATTERSON and Jon McLaughlin have been named in the Scotland squad for UEFA Euro 2020, capping a fabulous season for the young right-back and the goalkeeper.

Aged just 19 and uncapped at A squad level, Patterson has burst onto the scene with 14 Rangers appearances both domestically and in Europe, and has also netted twice for his boyhood heroes.

An Academy graduate, Patterson joined the Light Blues over 10 years ago, and has progressed through every stage of the club’s development plan to now be a key part of Steven Gerrard’s first team.

He joins Jon McLaughlin in the squad, the Rangers goalkeeper having also made 14 appearances, and remarkably, has conceded just three goals in those matches as a key performer in Gers’ incredible defensive record.

McLaughlin has been capped twice, but will join up with the Scots with real hope of being the number one for the tournament given the form he has shown this season.

Steve Clarke’s Dark Blues head off on a training camp next week, where they will take on the Netherlands and Luxembourg in warm-up matches on June 2 and June 6 respectively.

From there, it’s back to Glasgow, and their first match in a major tournament for 23 years when they face the Czech Republic at Hampden on Monday, June 14 at 2pm.

Next up is a trip to Wembley to face the Auld Enemy, England, at 8pm on Friday, June 18.

The group stage then rounds off with the mouth-watering possibility of Patterson and teammate Borna Barisic coming up directly against each other back at Hampden with Scotland facing Croatia on Tuesday, 22 June at 8pm.

The top two in each group are guaranteed progression to the Last 16 stage, while the four best teams in third place from the six groups will also make it through.
