New Rangers Loan Review

RANGERS have players from both the first-team and Academy out on-loan at present. With Scottish League One and Two returning at the weekend a number of young Gers were in action. Here’s our review of how those who featured got on in recent games...

Glenn Middleton

Glenn scored his first St Johnstone goal on Saturday against Ross County as he came off the bench to help secure Saints a top six finish in the Scottish Premiership.

With St Mirren drawing at Hamilton, Glenn’s 86th minute goal was vital as goal difference pushed St Johnstone into sixth place.

Stevie May picked out the Gers winger in the box with Middleton showing composure to turn and hit a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

Brandon Barker

Brandon and Oxford started the week off with a strong 3-0 home victory against Doncaster on Wednesday night.

The Gers loanee was involved in the opening goal as he beat the Doncaster defender to drive to the byline before cutting a ball back to Matt Taylor who netted at the second attempt.

In the closing stages of the first-half Brandon also provided the delivery as Olamide Shodipo scored Oxford’s third goal of the evening.

On Saturday, Oxford lost out 2-0 at home to Blackpool. They will be looking to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Northampton Town before hosting Lincoln City on Friday evening.

Robby McCrorie

Robby played another 90 minutes for Livingston as they drew 1-1 with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Livingston took the lead inside the first half an hour through Craig Sibbald before Christian Doidge equalised before half time.

Josh McPake

Harrogate Town lost 1-0 at home to Morecambe on Saturday after an own goal inside the first minute.

Josh got another 90 minutes under his belt but Harrogate were unable to recover from the early setback to take anything from the game.

This weekend they host Southend United in EFL League Two.

Kai Kennedy

On Tuesday evening 10-man Raith lost out 1-0 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Stark’s Park.

Kai played 66 minutes as Daniel Mackay’s goal secured all three points for Inverness.

The Gers winger came on as a 82nd minute substitute on Saturday as Raith picked up a point away to Ayr United. Kyle Benedictus had Raith ahead before Aaron Muirhead pulled one back as the race continues for the Championship play-off spots.

Raith are in Scottish Cup action tomorrow evening away to League Two side Stirling Albion before returning to league business at home to Greenock Morton at the weekend.

Ben Williamson

Ben played another 90 minutes for Arbroath on Saturday as they held league leaders’ Hearts to a goalless draw at Gayfield.

Arbroath host Falkirk in the Scottish Cup tomorrow evening, before a trip to the Highlands to face Inverness on Saturday.

Lewis Mayo

Lewis came on as a 57th minute substitute as Dunfermline lost 1-0 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday as Dave Carson’s late goal was the difference at East End Park.

Dunfermline are away to Greenock Morton in the Scottish Cup tomorrow evening before a trip to Dens Park to face Dundee at the weekend.

James Maxwell

James played another 90 minutes for Queen of the South as they narrowly lost out 2-1 away to Greenock Morton on Saturday.

Next weekend they travel to Tynecastle to play Championship leaders Hearts.

Rhys Breen

Rhys also played 90 minutes for Queen of the South in their 2-1 defeat at Cappielow.

It was his ninth appearance for the Championship side since joining on loan in January.

Dapo Mebude

Dapo was the third Gers loanee in action for Queen of the South at the weekend.

The striker played 68 minutes as Queen’s lost out 2-1 to Greenock Morton.

Kieran Wright

With the lower leagues making a return at the weekend, Kieran was back in action for Partick Thistle in their first game since Boxing Day.

They restarted their League One campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Cove Rangers. Joe Cardle had Thistle ahead with 20 minutes remaining but Cove got one back through Mitch Megginson.

Thistle host Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup tomorrow before a trip to Airdrieonians on Saturday.

Jack Thomson

Jack played 74 minutes for Clyde on Saturday as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to East Fife at Broadwood.

Clyde are away to Highland League side Keith in the Scottish Cup tomorrow before a trip to Montrose in League One on Saturday.

Kane Ritchie-Hosler

Kane made his Clyde debut at the weekend as he came on as a 74th minute substitute to replace fellow Rangers loanee Jack Thomson.

It was the youngster’s first appearance in League One as Clyde returned to action for the first time since December.

Cole McKinnon

Cole made his first appearance for East Fife as he came on as an 83rd minute substitute in their 3-1 win against Clyde.

Goals from Nathan Austin, Danny Denholm and Ryan Wallace secured the three points for East Fife.

They host Cove Rangers at Bayview on Saturday.

Nicky Hogarth

Nicky kept a clean sheet for Cowdenbeath at the weekend as they left Annan with a point after a goalless draw at Galabank.

Cowdenbeath are away to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup tomorrow before hosting Stranraer in League Two on Saturday.

Chris made his League Two debut for Brechin City on Saturday as they narrowly lost out 1-0 away to Stirling Albion.

Brechin have two league games this week as they travel to Stranraer on Tuesday before hosting league leaders Queen’s Park at the weekend.

Harris was the second Gers loanee to make his debut for Brechin at the weekend as he also played 90 minutes for the League Two side.

It’s a busy schedule for Brechin as they look to pull themselves from the bottom of League Two with games against Stranraer and Queen’s Park this week.
