CAPTAIN Nicola Docherty has shared her pride as Rangers lifted the Sky Sports Cup for the third season in a row this afternoon.
It was an impressive display from Jo Potter’s side as they saw off Hibernian 5-0 in the final to pick-up the first silverware of the 2024/25 season.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Docherty said: “It feels absolutely superb to be honest, I think it feels even better than the last one because there was probably a little bit of pressure on us today to go and get the result.
“I thought everyone was excellent. We really stood up to the occasion, everyone that came on played their part and the work rate was fantastic. We knew it was going to be a tough game against Hibs, but I thought we were relentless right to the end.
With a 1-0 lead at half-time, it was a superb start to the second-half for Rangers with two goals in the first five minutes after the break put them in full control at Fir Park.
Docherty continued: “It was an unbelievable start to the second-half but the message at half time was can we do more of the same. We obviously didn't realise at times in the first half that there was more space to play football, so we really started to do that in the second-half.
“We were so switched on even when we were 5-0 up because we were really keen to keep that clean sheet and that is something that we really pride ourselves on as a back line.
“It obviously starts from the front but as a backline we said before the game today, let's keep a clean sheet and we will win the game so we did that and I am amazingly proud of everyone.”
With two trophies still up for grabs this season, Docherty says the squad must use today to kick-on for more in the final months of the campaign.
She continued: “That is the third time in a row we have won that trophy but we want more, this is what it is when you are at Rangers. Rangers it is built on a history of winning trophies so we want to do that as much as we can as a women's team, and we really are striving for more this season.
“The mentality of the group has been excellent but now we have to kick on and do more.”
