RANGERS will be represented at this summer’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals in Northern Ireland taking place from July 15 to 28 through Mason Munn and Blaine McClure.
The Light Blues youth pair have been called up to the squad for the tournament with the hosts been drawn in a group alongside Ukraine, current holders Italy and Norway.
Coached by former Gers player Gareth McAuley, Northern Ireland will kick off their campaign on the opening day at 7pm as they’ll be hopeful of a positive showing in the 13-day competition.
They have been joined by seven teams who progressed from the elite round from 20 to 26 March, with the tournament also acting as UEFA's qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile.
The Irish Football Association previously staged the 2005 Under-19 Euros and was to host the final tournament of 2020, but was cancelled due to COVID-19, this month’s matches are scheduled to take place in both Belfast and Larne.
On being called up to represent his country at youth level in the tournament, Munn said: “It is massive, there is loads of pride for me and my family as well.
“They are proud of me in what I have been doing recently and this is just sort of topping everything off that has happened in recent weeks, but it is massive and I am looking forward to it.”
McClure added: “When did I find out I was in the squad? It was a few weeks ago, actually my dad called me and told me I got the email that I am in the squad.
“Obviously he was chuffed for me and all my family is proud and it is proud moment for me especially being a local lad and being a homegrown Northern Irish boy, it is just a proud moment for me and my family and also my friends.”
