RANGERS can today confirm Liv McLoughlin has departed the club to join Leicester City this summer for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old joined the Gers on an initial loan deal until the end of the season back in January 2024 from English side Aston Villa, making an instant impact in Glasgow, helping the team successfully defend the Sky Sports Cup as she scored in her first cup final as a player.
McLoughlin was also part of the Rangers side that claimed the Scottish Cup for the first time in the history later that season in May 2024, helping the team to a 2-0 win over Hearts at the National Stadium.
Her performances in the six-month spell saw her become a fan’s favourite in blue, as she committed to joining on a permanent deal in the summer, signing a two-year contract with the Light Blues.
Last season, she again featured heavily as she made 26 appearances in total, including 21 starts, before enduring an injury-disrupted second half of the campaign as Rangers claimed successive back-to-back cup doubles with wins over Hibs at Fir Park and Glasgow City at Hampden.
Speaking after making the decision to leave the club, McLoughlin said: “My time at Rangers has been incredible, from the moment I arrived it was apparent I was joining more than just a football club, I was joining a family, one that welcomed me my with open arms.
“I am so lucky to have had the privilege of putting on a Rangers shirt and playing in front of the amazing fans.
“Thank you to all the players, staff, fans and the club for making my time at Rangers so special. This has been an amazing part of my football journey that I will never forget.”
Women’s Head Coach Leanne Crichton said: “I’m disappointed not to have had more time to work with Liv, but ultimately she’s made a decision that she feels is the right one for her at this time in her career.
“We respect that and wish her all the best for moving forward.”
Women’s and Girls’ Managing Director Donald Gillies added: “We’d like to thank Liv for her contribution to Rangers during her time at the club.
“She has been a brilliant character to be around and her qualities have been evident during her time here; we are proud to have played a part in her development.
“While we’re naturally disappointed to see her move on, we understand her desire to move closer to home and take on another new challenge we wish her all the very best in her future endeavours.”
