RANGERS are delighted to announce that Reserve team captain Cammy Palmer has signed a one-year contract extension.
Palmer has been rewarded with the new deal after leading the Reserve team to the league trophy last season.
The 19-year-old midfielder had a year remaining on his current contract, but this extension secures his services until 2021.
Speaking to RangersTV Palmer said: “It is an amazing achievement to be at the club for another year and I am really looking forward to all the new challenges and things to come so I am really excited.
“Last year was really successful making it to two cup finals and winning the league and for me personally captaining the team helped me grow not only on the pitch but off it.
“I think we went into last year wanting to win the league and showed a lot of strength so it was good to get a taste of it at youth level and it makes you want to go on and lift it with the first team and at the top level so it is a taster for the future.”
Palmer is hoping a strong preseason can push him closer towards a first team debut.
He added: “Trying to make my debut has obviously been my target for the last few years and to be around the first team as much as I can.
“I think everyone really takes motivation and sees how far Glenn Middleton has come from last year and what he went on a did in the first team so it really gives us confidence to push on this preseason so we can hopefully do the same.”
With Rangers announcing the Development side have withdrawn from the SPFL Reserve League and will compete in a games programme next season, Palmer is excited at the prospect of testing himself against the top players in Europe. The midfielder was part of the group who took part in the programme in 2017/18 taking on the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester City.
He said: “It was a really great challenge playing against these guys because they really challenged us not only technically but tactically as well. We came up against different systems when at times it can be easy in the Scottish system so it really puts us outside our comfort zone which I think you need when you are young.”
