IN the latest instalment of our In Profile feature, Paul Nsio discusses his football journey so far.
The 19-year-old joined Rangers back in 2022, and made his first team debut in August of that year against Queen of the South.
Reflecting on his early football memories, the Birmingham-born midfielder said: “I have lived in south London since I was six-months-old.
“I first got into football when I was four or five-years-old. My Dad gave me a football and I just started kicking it and I’ve never stopped since. I love the game. The first boys’ club that I played for was Lambeth Tigers, based in south London. It’s a good academy.”
“It was an easy decision because in England there aren't many chances to get through an academy. I just thought that I would give it a try and see what happened. I remember my first training session at Rangers being enjoyable. I got on with the lads and got to know them straight away.
“My first coaches were Cameron Campbell and Stevie Smith; two really passionate coaches who I really liked. They wanted the best for me, and they still do. I’ve always kept that in my head.”
Nsio says he looks up to Mohamed Diomande in the Rangers first-team, as he looks to continue to improve his game.
He added: “I’m a box-to-box midfielder; energetic and quick with my feet. I like to influence the game. I started off as a goalkeeper because of my height, then I moved to central defence, full-back, striker before transferring back to midfield. I just felt it was a position that I was comfortable in.
"An attribute that I’m keen to develop in my game is my finishing because I feel like I should have more goals than I do right now. My finishing has really let me down in that way.
“My main footballing idol growing up was Paul Pogba because I played like him, and we share the same attributes. I’ve always looked up to him.
“The player in the first-team that I look up to is Mohamed Diomande because he’s hard working, and he does the basics right.”
