Potter: The Mood Is Strong

JO POTTER feels there is a strong mood in the Rangers camp as they head into their clash with Glasgow City this weekend.

The Light Blues take on last season’s title winners at Petershill on Sunday afternoon as they look to maintain their position at the top of the SWPL table.

Speaking to the media in this afternoon’s press conference, the head coach says the team are in a good place with the match bringing the opportunity to open up an 11 point gap on their Sunday opponents.

“We are good, we are doing what we would normally do. We have come off a really good week in training this week, we have had two really good sessions. The mood is strong and looking forward and we are confident going into the weekend.

“Any advantage we can take we will take it. We want to win the game anyway, so regardless if it was one point difference or five points, whatever that looks like we want to win the game.

“We put ourselves under that amount of pressure really. We take the pressure; we know it comes from outwards but also within. We put that expectation on ourselves, if we can go that far ahead then we will take it with both hands.”

The former Lioness is expecting a tough test against their Sunday opposition but feels the squad is different to the one when the sides last met in the league back in August.

She continued: “It will be a tough game. We know they have had a tough time of it lately. A couple of results that haven't gone their way, it is looking like they are probably going to come out fighting.

“They have got a point to prove. I feel that they took two points off us last time, we have got to be wary and we know that they have got threats. I am not expecting an easy game at all.

“It is a long season, where our squad was at that time it is not where it is at now. We look very differently, with different players on the pitch and that is the beauty of our squad.

“Just changing one or two players can change a dynamic of a team and how it looks and how we play. It is still there but we have got to use that as motivation to go, we are still in a very strong position in the league, we are still front runners and we are still playing really good football.”

Potter believes her squad still have levels to go up as she praised them for taking on the instructions since she took charge and producing them on the pitch.

She added: “That is one of the biggest positives for me. I have said previously that I thought it would take a while longer than what it has for them to perform to the levels that they have. Which is encouraging for me because it means we have got another level in us. They are taking things on board; we are doing it day in day out in training.

“We are showing in the majority of our games, we know we are not going to be perfect game in game out because that is not football. For the majority of the time we are delivering what I am asking them to do so that has been one of the most pleasing points for me.”
