LAURA RAFFERTY says she was delighted to get off the mark as a Rangers player this afternoon as her second half header helped Rangers to an emphatic 9-0 away victory over Montrose.
The defender popped up with a delightful header midway through the second period as the Light Blues netted nine times for the second time in four days to maintain their rampant league start.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, a delighted Rafferty beamed: “It was a nice feeling [to get my first Rangers goal]. It was a really good cross from Lizzie [Arnot], and you just need to take it when someone puts it on a plate for you.
“Aside from the black eye, which wasn’t the most fun, [my time at Rangers so far] has been great and everyone has been really welcoming.
“The vision is to win things and everyone around the club, from the staff to the girls, has that same mentality. It’s refreshing and great to be a part of.”
Although the goals for tally will leap off the page from a Rangers perspective, today’s triumph also marked a fourth successive clean sheet.
It is a source of pride for Rafferty, who also believes the side’s relentless goalscoring form – the Gers have netted 33 goals in their opening four league outings – is a result of a collective effort from back to front.
She also believes Rangers hit their stride in the second half in Montrose this afternoon, and insists sticking to Potter’s principles will be key to achieving league success this campaign.
Rafferty added: “We first of all talked about clean sheets and the importance of those, so that’s a positive.
“But also scoring nine goals is really positive as well, and Jo has really emphasised the importance of how we play and create the space.
“It’s not just about the scoreline but rather the process of getting to that scoreline.
“I feel we got better in the second half; working a lot more off different lines.
“We wanted to play in-to-out and we really used the width in the second half. We have so many different strengths in the team and it’s about utilising them.
“It’s important not to be complacent in games and keep the foot on the pedal, and we done that in the second half.
“A lot of the attacks do come from our defensive set-up. It’s one of those things where teams can be good enough on the counter to take something from you.
“It’s really important to control that and I felt we done that today.”
