RANGERS B Team have drawn Hammarby in the first round of the UEFA Youth League Domestic Champions’ path.
The young Gers will face the Swedish side at the end of the month in the first stage of the UEFA Youth League competition.
The ties are scheduled to take place in Glasgow on September 29 followed by the away leg in Stockholm on October 20.
The winner will then face either Albanian side Akademia e Futibollit or Septemvri Sofia from Bulgaria.
The Rangers B Team Head Coach, David McCallum, expressed his excitement for the competition after the draw.
He said: “This is an exciting game for the players to look forward to in many aspects.
“It will bring a different challenge from a tactical perspective where we will have to ensure our concentration is at maximum level throughout both legs.
“The analysis team will help the players gain understanding on Hammarby’s style of play and key players during the lead up to the games.
“These players have been used to playing European opposition in friendly games and tournaments over the last five years, therefore have some experience of the preparation and recovery required to perform at their best level in the UEFA Youth League.”
Head of the Rangers Academy, Craig Mulholland, highlighted his delight to be part of the competition and continued to outline the learning aspects it will bring for the youngsters.
He said: “We are delighted to be entering the UEFA Youth League for the third year in a row.
“This is Europe’s premier youth competition, and we are delighted to be Scotland’s representative.
“Our games in this competition previously against Young Boys, Slovan Bratislava and Atletico Madrid played a massive part in the development of players such as Nathan Patterson and creates a fantastic ‘best v best’ experience, a critical pillar in our strategic plan.
“We very much look forward to travelling to Sweden and welcoming Hammarby to Glasgow which, in keeping with the ethos of the UEFA Youth League, will allow friendships to be formed and lots of invaluable learning to take place”
