JOE ROTHWELL has reflected on a positive Rangers debut on Tuesday night, as the squad prepare for tomorrow’s friendly match with Middlesbrough.
The summer signing was influential in midfield as Russell Martin’s side defeated Panathinaikos 2-0 in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifier.
Rothwell said he loved his first taste of a full Ibrox, he explained: “You hear stories from the outside but when you get out there and get to experience it, it is fantastic and I’m sure the fans are going to be behind us in every single game.
“We will need them, there will be times when it might be a bit tough for us but I’m sure they’ll get behind us and get us over the line.
“I think you could really see what the manager wants us to do and how we want to play, and I felt it was another good test for us, and we came through again.”

On his own role in the team, and his responsibility as a senior player, Rothwell added: “The manager has brought me in to try and help with the way he wants to do things.
“He wanted me to come in and help the younger lads and show them how he wants to do things and as an older one, you want to take that responsibility on your shoulders and drive the game forward and that’s what I’ll try to do.”
Rangers are back at Ibrox tomorrow with Middlesbrough the visitors in a friendly and Rothwell insists there is plenty the squad can build on moving forward.
He added: “I have come here to win things and take this club back to the top. The Panathinaikos game was a stepping stone for us.
"We will go back and watch it and there’s definitely things we can work on, build on and we will look to do that in the next game.”
