SASCHA LENSE believes his role at Rangers is to be the caddie to Danny Röhl’s golfer.
The men’s first-team performance manager joined the club alongside the Head Coach in October.
Their relationship spans decades after Lense was Röhl’s hero as a child during his playing days at FSV Zwickau.
The duo then worked together at RB Leipzig before teaming up again at English outfit Sheffield Wednesday.
The 50-year-old is loving his life in Glasgow and believes there is even more to come from the squad.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV, he said: “I was a player in the German second league and played for a few clubs like Dynamo Dresden.
“Danny was actually a mascot at one of the games, and he told me when we worked together at RB Leipzig.
“He said he was a fan of mine, and he has my jersey - it is a funny story. I hope I was his idol!
“We are friends and colleagues. I would say I am like his caddie, and he is the golfer.
“I give my opinion, and then we share our thoughts, but he is the boss who makes the decision.
“Everyone is so nice. I knew some of the guys from Sheffield Wednesday, but it was very easy to feel comfortable here.
“I think we can see some improvements in the league since we arrived. We have six wins and two draws so far.
“We have really good players, but I am sure in the next few weeks they can reach another level.”
As well as working with Leipzig and Sheffield Wednesday, Lense was part of Ralf Rangnick’s staff at English giants Manchester United.
However, he has also worked outside the game, helping families for nearly a decade after studying psychology during his playing career.
Giving an insight into his life before returning to football, he added: “When I was 26, I realised I was maybe not good enough, and I had to do something else after my career.
“I began to study things I was interested in, so I looked at psychology.
“I worked for seven or eight years with youths and families, and I loved it. Then, I got a call from Leipzig, and they asked me to work with them. I think they wanted a former player who had studied psychology.
“What I do as a psychologist, we all have good days and bad days, and a lot of people think you have to take it and you can do nothing, and it is out of your control.
“But psychologists believe you can control it and have more good days.
“Manchester United was six or seven months, but to work for a big club, it was very good to get that experience, but we could have done better.
“I then went to Sheffield Wednesday, and it was challenging as they were fighting relegation. It was a big task and very demanding, but we got over the line.
“When Danny asked me to come here, it is a big club and everyone in Germany knows Rangers.
“I was very excited and happy to come here, and I am living the dream.”
