SHU Ohba is going to give her all to keep improving at Rangers after signing a deal to join the club.
The shot stopper has agreed to make the switch to Glasgow for the next 12 months, as the Gers strengthen their goalkeeping department with the addition of the 24-year-old.
Speaking to RangersTV in her first exclusive interview, she vowed to give her all in order to be a success in Glasgow. She said: “I really want to win a title, so I hope I can help the team.
“I will give 100 per cent, so hopefully we can win it.
“Hopefully I play well here, and they will get to know me better.
“I have never been to Scotland, but I have watched many YouTube videos about Glasgow, and I can't wait to go into the city and main area.
“It is really nice with old buildings and such nice weather right now; I am really excited.
“I can’t believe that I have the opportunity to play in the Champions League and at a high level.
“Hopefully I can get to play, but I just want to see how they play and the level they are at.”
The goalkeeper looked back on her journey in the game, which has seen her play college football alongside her studies in the USA before a first taste of professional football arrived in September in her native Japan. She insisted she is grateful for everything she has learned in the pathway she has taken so far.
She continued: “After I graduated from high school, I challenged myself to go to university in the US.
“At the time I couldn't speak English at all, then I had to learn in English, so it was a hard time for me, but everyone was really nice.
“They have a nice environment; I was able to play at a high level there.
“It was good; my family and friends were able to see me play. It was a good start.
“Japanese teams are really technical, and they have a high football IQ. I learned a lot from all the players and how we play and how to improve myself.
“They always gave me good advice.
“Knowing about Rangers? One of my coaches in Japan and also from my university told me about here.
“He is from the UK, so he knows about Scotland and football; he was explaining how it is a historic club.”
Ohba will wear the number 18 jersey between the sticks for the Light Blues, as she shared her reasoning behind the selection and what she feels she can bring to Leanne Crichton’s team.
She added: “When I was in high school, I was in a football academy for six years, and I was number 18 most of the time, so when I saw 18 I was like, I should take this number to remember how I got here.
“I would say I like to challenge high balls at set pieces.
“Everyone was so nice and kind and welcoming. I hope I can get to know them well.”
