Stewart Robertson On The Women In Football Campaign

RANGERS have pledged their support to Women In Football’s #GetOnside campaign and over the next year will celebrate the women who make the club.

The campaign aims to support females in football whether that be on or off the pitch while encouraging the next generation to work in football.

Managing Director Stewart Robertson sat down with RangersTV to discuss why the club felt it important to support the campaign and the club’s wider message of Everyone Anyone.

He said: “I think it is something that is really important. From the club's perspective we have our Everyone Anyone campaign and gender is a key part of that.

“It really shouldn't matter what your gender is, what we want are the best people for each position at the club.

“We have seen the growth of women's football but this is much more than women's football. This is about having women through every department in the club including in the men's football department. It is something that we genuinely believe in and it is not something that is just PR, it is something we believe in and we are very very pleased that we can support the campaign.”

On the pitch, the club’s investment in the women’s team has seen them move to full-time professionals over the past few years and Robertson says it is an area the club are still looking to improve.

He continued: “We are very proud and I think we have made huge strides, if you talk to Amy McDonald it is night and day from where we were.

“We are probably a little bit embarrassed about where the women's football team was historically, and not that historically either, it was something we badly had to do.

“It is something we are still working to improve further as well, there's still a long way to go but that is not just the women's football team but with women in the football club I think we are making progress as well.”

In terms of the Everyone Anyone campaign, Robertson says it is vital the club continues to engage with fans to ensure everyone feels safe and welcome when supporting Rangers.

He said: “I think you need to feel you can come and watch the football in a safe environment and a welcoming environment and that is really important to us.

“I think we do that and I think we achieve that but I think we can always do more.

“We need to make sure we engage with the fans in as many different ways as we can and I think we will see that particularly over the coming period with New Edmiston House when it comes to fruition. We will have a fan zone within that which will give the opportunity for more engagement for children, women, men and everybody to come along and enjoy Rangers.

“We are trying to make Rangers a welcoming place for everybody involved with the club, whether you work here, come to watch football here, or whether you are a visitor. We want you to enjoy being at Rangers.”
