THELO AASGAARD is hoping to bring his attacking flair to the Rangers ranks after sealing a switch to Glasgow.
The midfielder joins on a four-year deal from English side Luton, as the Gers further strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the competitive season.
Speaking to RangersTV after becoming the fifth summer arrival, the 23-year-old is hoping to express himself when he gets the chance as he gave fans a taster of what they can expect to see when he steps onto the pitch, he said: “To have the gaffer’s trust and being here one day, I can see he wants me to express myself in the system and I am looking forward to being part of hopefully a successful year.
“What suits me is possession-based football and when we played his Swansea team you never really touched the ball. I always thought it would be fun to play in a team like that.
“I have a bit of flair and I play with confidence. I shoot from distance and link up and form connections at the top of the pitch.
“I like to be part of the build-up phase as well as getting into the box and getting my goals.
“I feel at home already. The facilities are fantastic, it is a really good changing room and I can’t wait to get going.
“It feels like the right move for my career and to play in front of the amazing fans, in an amazing stadium is what I have been dreaming of.”
Born in Liverpool, but representing the Norwegian national team through his father, the new Gers number 11 spoke of his path in the game which has included spells in his hometown club at youth level as well as Wigan Athletic.
He continued: “I played for five years at Liverpool as a kid then I moved to Wigan at 14 and made my debut at 18.
“I progressed for four or five years; at the start I was raw but I found my feet. At about 19 I started to impose myself on the team, we won the league and got promoted.
“I did quite well in the Championship but we got relegated. In the last few years I have become the player I am and the confidence is up.
“I signed for Luton at the end of the transfer window and they were in a tough position. I went there to help them but it didn’t go as planned but I gave my all and I loved my time there.
“It was my first move and I wanted to hit the ground running and we didn’t have a lot of time to settle in.
“We had a strong second half of the season but the Championship is a tough league and we fell short in the end.
“I can’t wait to step out at Ibrox now and play some good football and I am looking forward to it.”
Making his international debut in a 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Moldova in March, Aasgaard says he has a hunger and eagerness to earn further caps moving forward after providing a goal and assist on his sole appearance.
He added: “My dad was over the moon and my Norwegian family were delighted and it was a milestone for me.
“I scored and got an assist so it was like a day you dream of. There has been a lot of hard work going into it and hopefully more caps are to come.
“The boys have made me feel part of the group. We have had a strong start to the World Cup qualifiers and to play there is a big goal for me.
“I am going to do everything I can to do that.”
