We Can Take Confidence Into Today’s Game

HANNAH DAVISON believes Rangers can take confidence from their opening UEFA Women’s Champions League victory as they head into this afternoon’s Round 1 mini-tournament final against PAOK.

Gers will take on the Greek champions at Katerini Municipal Stadium in a bid for a place in Round 2 of the competition.

The defender is expecting another tough game following Thursday evening’s 3-1 victory over Ferencvaros but hopes Rangers will be able to shake off any nerves and settle into the match.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Davison said: “I think the first game was a bit hectic.

“There were a lot of players on the field that hadn't had the Champions League experience so I think the nerves were high in both ends which you saw in the play.

“It was good that we settled into the game and hopefully now with this experience going into the next game it'll be a more dominant calm start like it was against Aberdeen.

“PAOK are a very good team and I think they are going to play a little bit more which is great and they are strong but I think now having seen them play I feel confident going into the game it is going to give us a different look.

“One game does give you a lot of confidence and I think we did well to handle the first game. The result was solid so there's a lot to take from that game and we go into this one with confidence.”

On a personal level, Davison, who joined Rangers in the summer from AIK in Sweden, admits playing Champions League football was on her ‘career bucket list’ as she relishes the opportunity of being a part of the competition.

She hopes to continue to develop as a player in Glasgow, adding: “It is fantastic to see us have this opportunity and what we can do with it and the doors that it opens for players.

“Any team no matter where they are coming from who has made it into the Champions League deserves to be here for a reason so I am excited to see how I compete at this level and continue to grow.

“Being at this club is exactly where my next step took me and it is going to be great. The facilities, the coaching staff, the style of play - it is all giving me extra tools as a player.

“It has been fantastic and moving to a different country you learn a lot about yourself and being uncomfortable is helping me grow a lot as a person and a player.

“Adjusting to new teammates, a new style of play and a new culture all at once is fun but it is a challenge and one that I am very excited for this season.”
