Roelfsema: I Want To Share The Love And Passion I Have

MIJKE Roelfsema is hoping to bring her playing experience in several nations to the Rangers ranks after agreeing a deal to sign for the club.

The Dutch defender has made the switch to Glasgow for the next two seasons, as Leanne Crichton strengthens her options in the backline further with her latest summer signing.

Having played in many countries during her career to date, the centre-back feels that can help her make an impact when she pulls on the jersey this season.

She said: “The most important thing is to just be the best version of yourself. Whether that is on the pitch, off the pitch. I want to just share with others what I have learned and what I really enjoy about the game, the kind of love and passion I have for football.

“I think if you don't have that then there is no point. For me that is the most important thing then the rest it will take care of the rest, the trophies will come with that. It is getting the best out of yourself every day and having other people follow that example.

“I am definitely quite calm on the ball. I love to just like pass and get out of difficult situations.

“I like to just be aggressive, just good passing, calm on the ball and aggressive defending I would say.”

Starting in college football whilst studying over in the states, the 28-year-old has also had spells in Canada, Cyprus, Republic of Ireland and most recently France and she feels adapting on several occasions has shaped her into the person she now is today.

She continued: “It was really hard, I think I was stressed for like half a year when I moved, because I didn't speak English well, so going to study in the US in a language that you don't speak is quite terrifying.

“I remember stepping off the plane and thinking what did I do to myself, but also I love taking risks, I love getting out of my comfort zone. I think it has brought me so much.

“I have definitely become the person that I am today and I have had a beautiful career so far so I am really happy that I did that.

“It has just made a very complete player in that, where it has become quite easy to adapt a lot of the times.

“Every time you have to build up a new life and that goes a little quicker every time. I just love explore and getting to know new people, I have met so many amazing people.

“I feel like America for example is so athletically based and others like France was super technical so you get so many different experiences in that and that has made me the person I am today and I am really happy with that.”

Unusually, the defender will take the number 11 at the Light Blues as she explained her reasoning behind the decision, whilst expressing her excitement at what’s to come in the near future at the club.

She added: “I have gotten enough comments about wearing this jersey. I love to do things a little differently.

“I just don't like the stereotypical, that you are a left centre-back and you are number four or five. This is not even the worst, I was number nine before, that was even worse. I love number 11; it is my birthday as well so I kind of have to pick this.

“I am really excited, even today putting this on I am just like it is really happening. I have really enjoyed the last two days, it has been competitive and I can't wait to play an actual game and start off the season.”
