Already capped by his national side, Ball was signed by Dick Advocaat in September 2001, but after getting off to an impressive start, a knee injury was to rule him out from the December of that year all the way.
It was the start of the 2003/04 season before he was fully fit and ready to go once again, and he played a key role in the club’s Champions League campaign that year, before contributing hugely to the following season where Gers completed a League and League Cup double.
