Video: Game Changers - Quick Thinking

AHEAD of this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup quarter-final, supporters can relive the dramatic Old Firm final of 2011 in the latest of our Game Changers series.

The feature, which will be available on RangersTV at 6pm this evening, looks back at the famous final, as Nikica Jelavić’s extra-time goal sealed the trophy for Gers.

With the match finely balanced at 1-1 in extra time at Hampden, Vladimir Weiss saw the opportunity to catch Celtic off-guard and quickly sent a free-kick into the path of Jelavić.

The episode explores Weiss’ quick-thinking, the quality of Jelavić’s finish and how one moment changed the course of the final.

The victory had added significance, giving Walter Smith a winning farewell in his last final at Hampden before stepping down at the end of the 2010/2011 season.

Speaking in the feature, Ian Durrant said: “It is one of those moments in time where everything freezes, when Jelavić hits the shot.

“That’s what dreams are made of: scoring the winner in an Old Firm cup final and then you see the gaffer after the game. He was up last, and the way he pointed to the trophy at the end, he was loving it.”
