BARRY Ferguson wants his squad to build on Sunday’s Scottish Premiership victory over Aberdeen as Dundee United visit Ibrox tomorrow evening.
It’s the final home match of the season and with a convincing 4-0 win at the weekend, Ferguson hopes to see his team carry that into this fixture.
Speaking to the media at this afternoon’s pre-match press conference, Ferguson said: “It will be the same squad as Aberdeen so thankfully we have had no more injuries. I am looking forward to the game.
“It is the last home game, and it is important we put in a performance, but the most important thing is that we get the three points.
“Sunday was important because it was far too long without a win, so we got those three points, and it was thoroughly deserved. It was a really good second-half performance and now we need to carry that into Dundee United.”
Ferguson was asked about his past few months as head coach, and if it was a bigger challenge than he expected, he said: “I knew it wouldn't be easy, I was at most games this season, so I knew the challenge of it. Has it been as good as I would've liked it? No, it hasn’t, but I have faced a few challenges within that, and I think we have dealt with those challenges pretty well.
“When you suffer a defeat, it is how my team reacts. If you go back to the first game at Kilmarnock, it wasn't great the first 20/30 minutes, we came back and we won that game.
“The following game after that against Motherwell, Motherwell deserved to win the game and then you have to go and try something different against a strong Fenerbahce team.”
With speculation around the manager position and Ferguson’s future at the club, he continued: “I need to remain as professional as possible, that is what I will always do and that is what I have done from the first day I stepped into the training centre.
“I will always be professional and make sure that my team and my players are professional too.
“Whoever gets the job, I have said from day one I will always support them. This is my club, it has been a proud few months for me but if I don’t get the job, I’ll still be at Ibrox next year and I’ll still be supporting the club whoever is in the dugout.”
