Brian Gilmour: Great Test For B Team

BRIAN Gilmour believes tonight’s SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-final against Cove Rangers will be another great opportunity for the B Team to test themselves.

The young Gers take on the League One leaders at Balmoral Stadium in the last eight of the competition, and Gilmour hopes they can use the match to show what they are capable of as a group.

Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the game, he said: “It is another opportunity to go and test ourselves against another really good outfit in Cove.

“They have a lot of experienced players and they are a good side so we are under no illusion that it will be a tough test for our lads but we are really looking forward to what is hopefully an enjoyable evening.

“Cove are flying high at the top of the table on merit, we are well aware of that but it is about us trying to put our stamp on the game.

“We will go there and we will look to try and win the game especially with it being the knockout competition. We want to try and go as far as we can in this competition so I am really looking forward to it, I think it will be an exciting game.”

With a number of players returning to the group after last week’s under-19 UEFA Youth League match against Septemvri Sofia, Gilmour says it will take a real squad effort in this quarter-final.

He continued: “We are looking for them to go and showcase themselves as always, I think it is about trying to bring everything together.

“It is a strong squad, like we have always said for the UEFA Youth League the pack gets shuffled and we are shuffling back in now so competition is healthy there.

“We have seen that in the last few days in training, the players have been very competitive in their training so everybody is fit and able to play. Come tomorrow night it will be a real squad effort and when you do get your opportunity to play it is up to you to go and grab that chance and take it.”
