RANGERS Chairman Andrew Cavenagh has given his full backing to Head Coach Danny Röhl.
After a disappointing end to the Scottish Premiership season which concluded yesterday, there has been increased scrutiny on everyone at the club as to why the team fell short in the title race.
Speaking to RangersTV, Cavenagh said: “Danny is our coach, we think that Danny gives us the best opportunity to win the league next year.
“We think there are two really important things that he needs, one is a pre-season and the most important one is a revamped squad.
“I don't love the word backed, I would say that we recognise that the squad needs significant change, so we intend to do that.
“It is more those nuanced and intangible things that we really are focusing on this summer with the squad.”
Cavenagh has reflected on his first year in the role both on and off the pitch, acknowledging the needs for improvement for the team moving forward.
He continued: “We didn't succeed, plain and simple, success is winning a title, we didn't win a title, we didn't succeed.
“It has been incredibly disappointing, responsibility in this club will always be with ownership, with the board, with me and with Paraag, there is no other way to cut it.
“Year as Chairman? It is an incredible honour to be a part of this club.
“It has gotten into every bone in my body, I think Paraag would tell you the same thing, but it has been a challenging year.
“We leave this year with a bitter taste in our mouth because we got close to winning the title and didn't and we will let that remind us of what we didn't achieve and let it fuel us towards success in the future.”
The Gers Chairman also took time to give a message to supporters at the end of this season, and ahead of the future.
He added: “I always want to be careful coming off a season like we just had to be showing smiles and that sort of thing.
“It has not nearly been good enough and we know it needs to be better.
“I think that is the most important message and the second one would be we will do it together.
“We have all recognised that when we are fighting side by side that we are more likely to have success.”
