Rangers Announce The Weekend Of Legends

RANGERS Football Club will celebrate becoming the first major European club to reach their 150th anniversary by hosting a galaxy of superstars for a Weekend of Legends, presented by Unibet, in March 2022.

World football icon Luís Figo will captain a phenomenal array of talent at Ibrox for an unforgettable game against a Rangers Legends team on Saturday, March 26 at 3pm, before a special dinner takes place on the evening of March 26.

Rangers Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will play for the Rangers Legends team and return to the pitch where he achieved so much glory as a player.

Rangers’ First Team Coach Roy Makaay will also join the occasion by playing for the World Legends team and sampling a taste of what’s sure to be a sell-out Ibrox as a player.

Luís, Giovanni and Roy will star alongside a World Legends squad featuring Roberto Carlos, Gheorghe Hagi, Robert Pires and a Rangers Legends team featuring former heroes such as Paul Gascoigne, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols, Saša Papac and Nikica Jelavić.

The Rangers Legends squad is presented by Rangers’ Official Event Supplier, 5 Stars, and is set to feature some of our biggest and most loved Legends.

As part of the match, Rangers will proudly make a donation to the Luís Figo Foundation, which was established in 2003 to support education, health and sports for children and young people across the world.

Commenting on the announcement, Luís Figo said: “I have many fond memories of Glasgow thanks to winning the UEFA Champions League there in 2002 and the Weekend of Legends at Ibrox is set to be another memorable occasion.

“I’m looking forward to captaining a team that will include former World Cup, Champions League and Ballon D’Or winners and best of all, the weekend will raise important funds for my foundation which supports children around the globe.”

Rangers Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst added: “It will be an honour to run out of the Ibrox tunnel again and join some of my former teammates in this incredible match.

“Playing for Rangers was one of the highlights of my career so it is always a privilege to relive that experience and to do so for a match celebrating our 150th anniversary makes it even more special.

Rangers Legend Kris Boyd continued: “Rangers’ 150th anniversary is a proud moment for every supporter and the Weekend of Legends will allow fans and some of the world’s most iconic players to come together and celebrate this incredible milestone.

“I can’t wait to pull the Rangers shirt back on and share the pitch with such legendary players on both sides and I’m sure the Rangers support will pack Ibrox out that day.”

As part of the weekend’s activities, we also look forward to supporting the Rangers Charity Foundation and the 150th Anniversary Appeal.
