RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to announce the signing of defender Jack Simpson from AFC Bournemouth on a four-and-a-half year deal.
Simpson, 24, has Premier League experience with the Cherries, and this season, has played an important role in their bid to be promoted back to England’s top flight, where they sit in the play-off places, just five points off an automatic promotion slot.
A product of Bournemouth’s Academy, Simpson made his debut for then-manager Eddie Howe’s side in a 3-1 EFL Cup win over Middlesbrough in October 2017 – a game in which he opened the scoring.
His first taste of Premier League action came that season against Manchester City at the Etihad, before establishing himself in the side somewhat at the tail end of the following season, playing a part in their final five matches of the campaign. That run also included 90 minutes in a 1-0 clean sheet victory over Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur.
Simpson arrives in Glasgow with Rangers having successfully negotiated his transfer from the South Coast now, with the defender having previously signed a pre-contract agreement with the club last month.
On his arrival, Simpson said: "I am super excited to be here. This is a massive club and I am honoured to be a part of it. I can't wait to pull on the shirt, and play in front of the fans and at the stadium.
"It is obvious how big this club is - it's one of the most successful clubs in World football so I am delighted to be here.
"It is going to be a huge challenge to keep up with everything that has happened and to keep pushing myself to stay at the standards that are expected here.
"That is very important to me and I am excited to try and do that."
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard added: “We are delighted to have Jack here. We have been aware of him for some time and excited to finally have him.
“Clearly it’s a bonus to have him here now earlier than initially planned. His presence makes us stronger and we are all looking forward to working with him.”
