150th Anniversary Celebrations

IN March 2022, it will be exactly 150 years since four young boys – Moses McNeil, Peter McNeil, William McBeath and Peter Campbell – followed their dream to start a football team and begin an adventure within the new, emerging world of association football.

The lads didn’t have kits, a pitch or famously, even a ball.

What they did have though was ambition, passion and commitment and from these roots Rangers Football Club was born.

These ideals still drive the club today and as part of the celebrations of our 150 years, we are delighted to unveil additional details around how we will celebrate and honour the legacy of the Gallant Pioneers throughout the month of March.

These celebrations will begin on March 4, where we will invite a selection of MyGers Members and Season Ticket Holders to attend ‘The Moonlighters’ evening event.

‘The Moonlighters’ was one of Rangers’ earliest nicknames and was given in recognition of the training and preparations that would take place after dark as we prepared for our first ever Scottish Cup Final appearance in 1877.

Dedication to success is something that has been instilled at the club since our formative years and ‘The Moonlighters’ evening will allow supporters to take part in an evening stadium tour and view some of our earliest memorabilia and artefacts in the company of legends and club historians.

A dedicated 150 landing page on the club website will also allow our loyal supporters across the globe to follow ‘The Moonlighters’ event and other events as they happen through the month. Keep your eyes peeled for some more very special Rangers content on the site through the month too.

The 150-themed celebrations will continue on March 5 with our Gallant Pioneers-themed home Scottish Premiership match with Aberdeen. Supporters attending this match will be able to enjoy special pre-match activities and entertainment and a collectors’ edition commemorative programme will also be available to purchase.

The Gallant Pioneers kit has been incredibly popular with supporters already this season and in anticipation of our birthday weekend, Castore will release a PRO edition of this kit which will be presented in a luxury, limited-edition gift box.

A 150th anniversary Fan Village will be created at Ibrox stadium for the Aberdeen, Weekend of Legends, and Celtic fixtures, with a wide range of activities planned for all the family. The Fan Village will include a number of activations, including live entertainment, a pop-up museum exhibition and football activities.

Fans are at the heart of our celebrations and even if you can’t attend the match in person you can celebrate from home by watching all the action live on RangersTV, with our broadcast that day including an extra special prematch show. And beyond that on RangersTV over the month of March, watch out for some very special anniversary content.

Supporters around the globe can also send us your anniversary messages and videos. We look forward to sharing some of the best ones at half-time that day and on our digital platforms throughout the month.

As announced in this month’s MyGers newsletter, our junior supporters can win the chance to celebrate another important birthday – Broxi’s! We will be hosting a MyGers exclusive party that will allow our youngest fans to celebrate the club turning 150 with Broxi Bear.

Our birthday month will continue with themed Ibrox stadium tours plus special offers and activities from our family of partners and official licensed products.

To finish March in style, the Weekend of Legends, presented by Unibet, will take place on March 26 and will see the return of some our most-loved legends including Paul Gascoigne, Michael Mols and Sasa Papac.

Football stars from across the globe will also grace the hallowed turf that weekend with legends such as Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Gheorghe Hagi already confirmed to join in the celebrations. In the company of so many legends, we will also unveil the Rangers Dream Scene painting which brings together players, managers and moments from our 150 years.

This painting will proudly be displayed within our new museum within New Edmiston House. New Edmiston House will be one of the biggest and most impactful legacies of our 150th celebrations and supporters still have the opportunity to purchase a supporter package that will allow their name to be featured on the supporters’ wall within the new venue.

Season 2021/22 has already featured many special moments for the 150th anniversary including historical friendlies with Arsenal and Real Madrid, the re-introduction of live concerts to Ibrox and the unveiling of commemorative crests that have been worn on our kits.

March 2022 is a focal point of our 150th anniversary celebrations, and we look forward to collectively celebrating this prestigious milestone with our supporters around the world, but there is so much more to come including the opening of New Edmiston House and the much-anticipated museum, as well as the Blue Sky Lounge restaurant and hospitality suite in the Sandy Jardine Stand.
