A ‘dream return’ for Kirsty Howat saw her back on the pitch for the first time in nine months and score against Hamilton to help Rangers to a 4-0 victory in the league this evening.
The striker, who has been out with an ACL injury since April 2021, was greeted with a warm applause at Rangers Training Centre as she entered the field with 30 minutes of the match remaining.
After getting on the scoresheet, Howat shared her delight with RangersTV at full-time, she said: “First of all it is great to get the three points but it was a dream return for me, I am absolutely delighted.
“It has been nine months since I was last on the pitch and ever since that night getting back on the pitch has been my goal.
“Every single person in the club from medical staff, physios, doctors, coaches and the girls have been amazing. They have got around me from the day it happened right to the end there and it was great to be able to celebrate with them after I scored the goal.”
Howat said it was important the squad continued momentum tonight after Sunday’s victory over Glasgow City.
She added: “It was a great performance, we spoke about getting the three points after Sunday because Sunday was a massive result for us but really it meant nothing if we didn't go and take care of it tonight.
“We started really well and settled into it nicely, it was always going to be hard against Hamilton. They defend really well and work well as a team but we were able to break it down.
“We are delighted to get another three points on the board and now we look forward to the cup game on Sunday.”
