The Light Blues gaffer watched on as his men kept another clean sheet and netted twice through another super Joe Aribo strike and a Connor Goldson header on a James Tavernier free-kick.
Speaking to RangersTV at Ibrox, boss Gerrard said: "I am really happy and it has been a really positive pre-season. We're not conceding many goals and we are showing real, good creation in the final third.
"So, again, it is another strong, positive win - we understand Coventry are only a couple of weeks into their pre-season, but I thought they were really organised and worked really hard for Mark.
"But, in the end, we found the answers we needed to win the game.
"I think a lot of individuals look ready - both keepers have been fantastic, from a defensive unit point of view we are keeping clean sheets, I think Connor is showing real, good leadership skills and really driving that back four to clean sheets.
"We are looking strong in the full-back areas - if you look over the course of pre-season. I thought they could have been a little bit better today in-terms of playing when the ball came to them.
"The only thing I am slightly concerned about is our options in the 'nine' position - it is something we are trying to address and it is the reason I was being wise with Alfredo today and get him off the pitch as soon as we could."
Allan McGregor played his second game of pre-season, with Jon McLaughlin also having played two matches – and Gerrard is thrilled with the options available to him in that area of the pitch.
He explained: "We all know what Greegs is about - he has been fantastic for us since we walked through the door and his consistency levels are there for everyone to see.
"The good thing is, Jon is setting the challenge to him. He has played a couple of games and made some outstanding saves - between the both of them, they are keeping clean sheets which is great for me."
The central defence has also been handed a major boost, with Filip Helander playing his first minutes since December today, while Leon Balogan was signed yesterday.
The manager continued: "We are just trying to get Fil as many minutes as we could today in a safe way. We are trying to get a friendly in place for Tuesday to try and get him some more minutes, but that's not confirmed yet.
"So the idea will be to try and get him 45 minutes - I thin realistically, it could be touch and go for Fil next week, but we will see how he goes.
"We are delighted to get Balogan in as it is another real, strong option for us and he will challenge the people who have got the shirt and that is what I want - I want real competition for places as hopefully that will bring the best and consistency out of individual players."
The Light Blues had to work hard to find a way through Coventry, as they will do against many domestic opponents this season – that of course beginning with Aberdeen at Pittodrie in a week.
"That is the reason why we put these type of fixtures in,” added Gerrard, “to try and give us that opportunity to rehearse what we are going to face over the course of 60 games if we qualify for Europe.
"So we are really pleased and thankful for Coventry coming up, approaching the game right and I think they are a good team and will be alright this season, so it was a real, good challenge for us and one we have passed in the end."
