RANGERS were thrilled to see former manager Alex McLeish being made OBE for Outstanding Contributions to Football, Sport and Charity Work.
The 65-year-old received the honour from the Princess Royal at Windsor Castle yesterday afternoon.
McLeish was in charge at Ibrox from 2001 until 2006, guiding the Light Blues to seven trophies which included the Treble in the 2002/03 campaign.
Indeed, McLeish made a historic contribution to several clubs and the Scotland National team over the course of his playing and coaching career.
His footballing career began in Aberdeen, making over 700 appearances in the north east and winning, among other honours, the 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup, the European Super Cup, and three Scottish Premier Division titles.
McLeish also represented his country with distinction at three separate World Cups, gaining 77 caps in a 13-year span on the international stage.
As a club manager, McLeish achieved significant milestones, leading Motherwell to their highest-ever finish in the Scottish Premier Division; guiding Hibernian to a Scottish First Division title; securing seven trophies including a treble for Rangers; and leading Birmingham City to promotion to the English Premier League as well as winning their first major trophy in the 2011 League Cup Final against Arsenal.
And his influence extends beyond the football pitch, evidenced by his notable charitable work and community engagement.
McLeish is involved with organisations including Crohn’s and Colitis UK, for which he helped raise more than £200,000, while he is also an ambassador for the Catherine McEwan Foundation, helping to fundraise and increase awareness about the conditions.

“Beyond that, however, Mr. McLeish’s contribution to charitable causes is testament to his generosity, dedication, and desire to make an impact beyond the world of sport.
“It is undoubtedly a proud day for Alex and his family, and we share his delight at receiving this fantastic honour.”
