Alfredo Morelos - 100 Rangers Goals

ALFREDO MORELOS today became the 18th post-war player to hit 100 goals for Rangers Football Club with his winner against St Mirren.

The Colombian internationalist has achieved the feat with a superb goal average of just better than one in two, reaching the milestone in 199 matches for the Ibrox club.

It’s a brilliant achievement for the hitman, with 49 of his goals coming with his right foot, 25 with his left, 25 with his head and one ‘other goal’ – that coming off his chest against Dundee United at Ibrox last season.

51 of his strikes have been at Ibrox, 47 on the road with a further two coming at neutral Hampden.

Today’s winner was classic Morelos, being in the right place at the right time at the back post to get on the end of a Tavernier ball after Conor McCarthy failed to clear, and the celebrations among not only himself and his teammates, but also the Rangers fans, displayed just how much he means to this football club. Not only that, it’s another crucial goal from him too in a big moment to earn the three points here in Paisley to send Gers back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.

His winner today puts him on a pedestal with some iconic names of Ibrox, including Jim Forrest, Ralph Brand, Derek Johnstone, Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley who have all reached a century of goals for the club in the past.

Manager Steven Gerrard paid tribute to him at full-time when speaking to RangersTV, explaining: "That is what we want our number nines to do - run through the goal. We know we have got the service from the sides and it was a fantastic cross from James, but 100 goals at any level at any club is a magnificent achievement and I said it last week, but he will smash 100 and hopefully go onto get many more for Rangers.

"Kemar Roofe, it was his 50th appearance today and he has 26 goals - we have got two poachers/goalscorers in our armoury which is fantastic for me."

Roofe too lauded his teammate, adding: "He got the winning goal and we didn't realise it was his 100th goal until we got told after the game.

"So everyone is pleased for him, everyone gave him a round of applause and it is a special moment for him.

"Everyone knows he is a character, but I think every team has a character. We have got more characters in there but in a different style.

"The amount of goals he has scored has helped the team out massively and he does it in every game and the stats show he produces."
