The Welsh international has hide to bide her time throughout her career, but the moment arrived with a quarter of an hour to play when Griffiths collected possession and unleashed a ferocious effort into the top corner from 25 yards out.
Speaking to RangersTV after the triumph, the midfielder said: “I’m delighted to score today. It’s definitely been too long and a long time coming, but I’m really happy.
“I’ve said a few times over the years that ‘yeah, today will be the day’, but I said to Wilko and Leah [Eddie] at half-time that perhaps today could be the day.
“The staff want the midfielders to get in the penalty box and it gave me the license to play with freedom, so I was in and around the penalty box much more today and in the right areas.
“We had a lot of the ball and there was a lot of combination play around the penalty box, but I thought ‘no, I’m taking this on myself’, and I just hit it from the edge of the penalty box.
“We’re really lucky to be able to play at this stadium because it’s fantastic. What a better place to get my first goal.”
The emphatic nature of the scoreline was the perfect tonic for the Gers after last weekend’s defeat in the capital.
Indeed, the side led by seven at the half-time interval and they never relented in the second half to sign off for the international break on a positive note.
She added: “We always look to bounce back. The performance was more important than anything. The way we won the game was emphatic.
“We played well today and moved the ball, but there are still things we can do better. We want to keep building and learning, but I thought we were clinical in the first half.
“We know that goal difference can make a difference, so we want to be taking our chances. Winning football games obviously gets people’s confidence up as well when they’re on the scoresheet.
“I’ve had a mixed season. I try to take all the opportunities that I have when I’m on the pitch, and moments like this at Ibrox are really nice.”
