Gers B were forced to pay for the opposition’s ruthlessness in front of goal in the first half, with Paul Nsio’s strike providing a shot in the arm for the side who enjoyed the better of the second half.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game, Stevens commented: “I think we punished ourselves at the start. At the end of the first half we put some pressure on them and we were the better side.
“We have to be ruthless in these sorts of games. We could have been ahead, but we went behind and they punished us.
“We tried to put the pressure on and put our foot on the gas, but we couldn’t get a goal. We gave ourselves too much to do when we did get it.
“Monaco have a lot of quality players and they are a good side who play well as a team. We had times where we got the better of them and you want to test yourselves against these types of teams.
“We can take a lot out of the game, we didn’t get the result we wanted, but there are things we can pick up on and take forward.”
Stevens, who will represent England at Under-18s level over the forthcoming international break, is no stranger to the Ibrox pitch having made his first-team debut against Queen of the South last season.
However, the 17-year-old says he cherished the opportunity to walk out onto the famous surface and has thanked the supporters who braved the extreme weather.
He continued: “Every time we play at Ibrox there is a buzz about it.
“When we step onto the pitch it is amazing, but even the things before it, like the walk around the park, to see the stands, the history that comes with it, adds something to the game.
“The fans always come and support us, and it was amazing.
“It was hard to get to the game [due to the weather] so it means a lot to us and we are sorry we never got the result, but we will learn from it.”
