The Light Blues had to be patient in the opening exchanges in Edinburgh before a well-taken Robbie Fraser strike followed by quickfire second half goals from Thompson Ishaka and Alex Lowry set them on their way.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory the midfielder was happy the team were able to put the opportunities away when they came around after the hosts stood firm in the early stages of the contest.
He said: “Especially in games like today where you don’t get a lot of chances, you need to be clinical and take them when you get them, and I thought we done that very well tonight.
“I feel like we were getting a bit agitated because we weren’t getting enough chances but that is because they defended well. Once we got that out of our heads we started getting the chances that we knew we were going to create and we got the goal in the first half and just took over from there.”
Lyall feels the side dominated throughout on the night and hailed his teammates for the quality they produced against their League Two opponents.
He continued: “I thought we played very well, dominated a lot of the ball for pretty much the full game, they were a difficult team to break down, especially in the first half. We get the breakthrough goal near the end of it and then come out strong second half, I thought our quality on the ball sort of took over the game and we end up scoring two in the second half with a good performance to go with it.”
The 19-year-old was happy the side were able to deny the host as they kept a clean sheet in a strong overall showing in the capital as they now look ahead to the next round of the cup competition.
He added: “Keeping a clean sheet is always important because we know we are going to score goals, so if we keep it tight at the other end we will win games.
“Getting into the next round of any competition especially at Rangers is always a big part of the journey at the club, so getting into the next round is really good.”
