ASHTON Patton has made the step up to the Under-19s side this season and was pleased to help Rangers to a well-earned clean sheet in last night’s victory over Hibernian.
The teenager lined up on the right-hand side of the defence as goals from James Reid and Alexander Smith, one in each half, fired the young Gers to a crucial three points in the league.
Speaking to the official Rangers website after the win, the 17-year-old commented: “I thought it was a good performance.
“It was good to come away with three points, but I thought towards the end of the game it was becoming scrappy and we were playing the way Hibs wanted the game to be played.
“I thought the back four did well and played as a unit. We communicated well, and the main goal was to get a clean sheet.
“We lost three times and drew once against Hibs last season. We just wanted to win coming here, and we proved we can do it.”
Patton was a crucial part of the Under-17s side last season, which also tasted league success.
He signed professional terms with the club in 2025, and the full-back admits the will-to-win is the same across both teams.
Patton added: “It’s tough, and as people say, everyone wants to beat Rangers. We want to win the league, and we need to treat every game the same.
“You wouldn’t think it’s much of a jump going from Under-17s to Under-19s, but it’s quite the difference in terms of the pace of the game and the physicality.
“They are quicker and more physical.
“[The older players] can coach us through the game because they’ve been in that scenario, and it’s always good to play with more experienced players.”
