Barisic Wants To Build On Form

BORNA BARISIC wants the side to build on the form the team have gathered under their current manager as Rangers look to claim the first silverware of the season this Sunday.

The Gers take on rivals Celtic in the Viaplay Cup Final as they attempt to win the trophy for the first time in 12 years.

Speaking to the media in the press conference in the build up to the fixture the full back knows the importance of this weekend’s match and wants the side to continue their league form to come out on top.

He said: “Our recent league games and how we have played since Michael Beale has come to the club has given us a lot of confidence, we are in very good form and shape, we are doing well.

“It is very important, a cup final, I don't need to say much more, we want to win the trophy for us, the clubs and our fans.”

Rangers ran out 2-1 winners after extra time when the teams last faced off at Hampden Park in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final and the left back believes they can take belief from that fixture when they came from behind to win.

He added: “It helps that we were able to come back in that game, there are a lot of experienced players in our squad right now in terms of playing in big games and it helps, but every game is a game for itself, it will help for sure but it will be tough.

The 30-year-old feels the side are in a good place mentally heading into the match and believes the team’s experience of playing in big games in recent years will help.

He continued: “We are a group of players that have been together for a long time, we have a good relationship and that experience of playing in big games which is very important.

“We will see what is going to happen but we are ready and have confidence.

“The thing that we have changed in the last two or three months is the way we train and the way we are talking, we are in a good way in terms of the mentality of winning something.”

The Croatian wants the team to seize the opportunity that presents itself this Sunday and believes nothing will change for readying themselves for the occasion.

He said: “The way I am looking at the cup final personally is I am not looking at playing this or that team, I am just looking at it as an opportunity to win a trophy for my team, this club and the fans.

“This game is bigger than others, we have a lot of experience, you need to be mentally prepared of course but nothing has changed from previous games, everything is the same.”
