Rangers progressed straight to the round of 16 with some big European performances in the league phase and the head coach wants to see more of the same in Istanbul.
Speaking to the media ahead of his first UEFA Europa League match in charge of Rangers, Ferguson said: “I am expecting a tough game, the players know that as well, so we are as prepared as we can be, and the players need to go and give a performance that I expect from them.
“It has been important to get a couple of days in a row on the training field. This week we have had two full days to prepare and to go through certain scenarios.
“We have watched their domestic league games and also in the Europa league, they change formation sometimes, but it is virtually the same sort of eleven they start with, and we understand what we are coming up against. We are coming up against a very good team and we will need to be at our very best if we want to get a good result.”
On Rangers European performances so far this season, Ferguson continued: “I have been at all the games this season home and away and some of the best performances have been in the Europa League, there's no doubt about that.
“I think we are coming up against a different level if I am being honest with you after watching so much of Fenerbahce the last three or four days but listen they have proved that they can compete, and I expect that same sort of performance tomorrow.”
Ferguson has welcomed John Souttar and Leon Balogun back to training but says time will tell if the defensive pair are fit to play a part tomorrow evening.
He continued: “I need to wait until tomorrow morningto see how they react from the training session, but it is good to see them both back training and hopefully be available for selection tomorrow night.
When asked about Istanbul-born Ridvan and his impact on the squad, Ferguson continued: “I have always liked Ridvan, he is a good player, the issues he has had at Rangers have been injuries but now he is back fully fit he has been playing in a position that is foreign to him at right-back.
“He is one player I can rely on, he doesn't moan if I ask him to play different positions and he has become a big player. I like his attitude, it has always been first class and it is now about him being fully fit for the rest of the season because I think if he plays more games he can get better and better.”
