The 28-year-old defender sprung from the substitutes bench at half-time and delivered a decisive moment at the attacking end of the pitch, bundling home the rebound from John Lundstram’s ferocious strike.
It was the defender’s first appearance since helping the side to a memorable result in Seville back in December, and he says it was special to mark the occasion with a rare goal.
Speaking to RangersTV, Davies commented: “The gaffer told me to move the ball at tempo. He knows what I am good at.
“For my goal I followed up, which I did a few times last season and against Real Betis as well.
“I try to make sure I am onside and see where the ball goes. The finish was a bit lucky as I hit it, it hit the goalie and then hit me again and went in - but it was a great feeling to score.
“It’s been a long time out. I was on my way back and then I suffered a concussion in training and that set me back a couple of weeks.
“It was frustrating. The rehab went well but then it ended up being out a long time so I am delighted to be back and helping the team.
“The manager has been great and he has made me feel part of it and saying I would be important at some stage.
“Thankfully I got my chance today. I had to wait for it, but I am grateful for it.”
Davies was a spectator in the first half as a frantic opening 45 minutes concluded with Fabio Silva cancelling out James Tavernier’s own goal on the stroke of the interval.
Killie had been reduced to ten men following the dismissal of defender Joe Wright for the denying of an obvious goalscoring opportunity midway through the first half.
And it was incumbent on the Gers to emerge from the half-time interval with a renewed purpose, which they duly did to the tune of three unanswered goals from Davies, Tom Lawrence and John Souttar.
He added: “It was a wild game. I was on the bench for the first half and there was loads going on, a lot of stoppages.
“There was some frustration but it was an important goal we got. In the second half we created chances and ended up winning comfortably.
“Our confidence is good; we scored four goals and created a lot of chances.
“The red card probably helped to create space for us but none the less we have come away with four goals and it could have been more.”
