The Northern Irish midfielder, still only 17-years-old, was the youngest player on the pitch for the Gers as they turned in an impressive derby display.
And the youngster capped off his performance with a goal of supreme quality to double Rangers’ advantage in the second half when he arrowed a thunderous strike into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, McClure reflected: “It’s good to get a goal, but most importantly the team won and got three points on the board.
“Personally for me, it’s good to get the goal as this was my first competitive start, and I’m happy it was against Celtic too.
“What do I remember about my goal? I just saw it coming out from a corner and I caught it nicely.
“Luckily it went into the top corner and I’m buzzing.
“Me and Paul [Nsio] had a great connection [in midfield].
“We have a good relationship and it’s good just to play with a more experienced player.”
McClure has been a regular for Stevie Smith’s Under-18s side this season.
Joining the club in the summer of 2023, the 17-year-old represents Northern Ireland at Under-19s level and says he relished the physical battle in midfield this afternoon.
The young midfielder also insists he’s hungry for more B Team opportunities this term.
He added: “You need to control your emotions in games like this as it’s a good fixture.
“It’s good to play our game; we got control in the first 15 minutes and set the tone. It was an important win.
“It’s a big step up physically. They are older boys than I am, and it was a challenge, but at the same time I’m just happy to make my competitive debut.
“My aim is to play as many B Team minutes as I can. It was really good to get them today and hopefully there’s many more.”
