Bongani Zungu: I'm Really Happy To Be Here

A DELIGHTED Bongani Zungu will begin his Rangers career in-earnest today after completing his quarantine period following his move from Amiens.

Zungu, 28, was the final of seven signings for the Light Blues in the transfer window, and he revealed in an exclusive RangersTV interview this morning just how excited he is to be a Ranger.

He explained: "It means a lot to me and I am very happy to be here to play for a team with such a great, rich history - the most successful team in the world - so I am very happy to be here.

"When I was young in South Africa growing up, my dad used to speak to me and my brother about the club, and I had an idea of the club and I knew about Rangers.

"Of course, when the team was interested in me, I did my research and then I realised it was such a huge club."

Midfielder Zungu is especially excited to be working alongside Steven Gerrard, and he continued: "I grew up watching the gaffer and I am very excited to work with him.

"He is going to help my game, help me grow and help me improve my skills, and hopefully, help the team succeed."

Despite his quarantine period, Zungu has been putting the graft in at his new Glasgow home to ensure he is as fit as he possibly can be to impact on Steven Gerrard’s squad.

He said: "I have been working very hard while I was still in France, and we were in talks with the gaffer and with the club.

As well as getting the chance to meet his Rangers teammates in-person for the first time today, Zungu was this week called back in to the South Africa squad for their African Cup of Nations double-header with Sao Tome and Principe.

On that, he added: "It means a lot to me, and I love playing for my country. We are growing as a nation and as a team.

"We have got some quality players in the team and we have players who are willing to succeed both in Africa and also to try and go to the World Cup.

"It means a lot to me, and I love playing for South Africa - hopefully we can be successful.

"Rangers is a massive club and for me to be here, I should improve my qualities and I should improve as a player.

"That will help me get more call-ups to the national team and hopefully, help the team to reach greater heights."

Zungu finished by thanking the Rangers support for the way they have welcomed him to the club on social media, adding: "It's been amazing! I felt at home even before I signed and I had a warm welcome from people on social media and that made me realise that this is a massive club.

"I had a talk with a few players here, and one thing that stands out for them is it is a pity I have come when there are still restrictions [on fans].

"Everybody is talking about the ambiance and how the stadium is when there are fans in, and I am looking forward to experiencing that for myself."

The Gers confirmed the signing of South African international Zungu on October 5th and after a period of isolation upon his arrival in the country, the midfielder is raring to go at the Light Blues.
