Since arriving from Osijek in 2018, Barisic has not only become a regular starter for Rangers at left-back, but he has very much become the man in that position for Croatia as well – and he puts much of that down to the work of the backroom team at the Rangers Training Centre.
"I think I have improved a lot in different areas of the game,” he explained to RangersTV. “Of course, I still have things to improve, but of course, I have improved a lot of things in the last two years.
"There is no secret though - it's just hard work. Every day, step-by-step all the time I am focused on football and that is the way I have become better.
"Specifically, I think my fitness is now much better and my body is in better shape - I am much stronger.
"If you're talking about football, I have improved a lot of my defernsive aspects too.
"I think playing against better players [in Europe] too - you start to be a better player too and it has been very important for me to play at a higher level too."
Barisic has been pleased to see Rangers busy in the transfer market already – with Calvin Bassey, who can play left-back, one of three players added.
He welcomes the competition for Bassey – but he reckons he is so focussed on his game at the moment, he doesn’t really require much else to spur him on.
He added: "I think that competition is good and it pushes you forward, but personally, I don't need any competition to push me as my mindset is now set every day to work harder and be a better player.
"So yes, competition is good, but right now, I don't really need it as I am very motivated."
