The B Team assistant boss believes that the young Gers will carry momentum from Tuesday night’s Old Firm victory into their upcoming league match just a few days later.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their fixture against the Galashiels side, he said: “I think it’s something that we can use in terms of the momentum, especially with the turnaround of the game coming just a few days later.
"That’s something that we’ve spoken about, and we’d like to use going into the game, we move on now with two league games to go and we’re looking to try and get maximum points, Friday becomes our main focus and we’ll be ready for it.
“It’s a quick turnaround but the boys are used to it, they’ve done it most of the season and the games are coming thick and fast. We’ll roll onto next week with the semi-final coming up as well – they’re just happy to be playing games."
Gilmour reflected on their midweek game in the Old Firm and the positive impact their victory and performance will have on the squad after a tough run of fixtures.
He added: “To put that performance in on Tuesday night, we knew that it’d be tough both mentally and physically to go and do it, but the boys were well prepared. I think coming off the back of the weekend, it was the perfect fixture to go and play in especially as it’s new to a lot of the players playing in front of the supporters in an away fixture, Tuesday night was the perfect opportunity for them.
“We speak about younger players that are looking to try and reach the next level, it’s on a smaller scale but the supporters are adding to the factor playing at an away ground – it’s a different feeling and emotion. It’s important in their journey moving forward.”
The assistant coach looked ahead to Friday evening’s game against Gala Fairydean at Dumbarton and insisted the squad want to finish the season strongly in their final matches.
“We want to go and win the game, there are six points to play for in the league and we want to get maximum points and finish as high as we can. We also lost the game against Gala Fairydean last time away from home, we are under no illusion that it will be a tough fixture.
“Every fixture in this league that we have spoken about throughout this season has thrown different challenges, we’ll treat it with the utmost respect and go for it. It will be about going and trying to find a performance and a victory tomorrow night.”
