Gilmour looked ahead to the B team’s second meeting against Spartans in the league campaign this weekend and insisted that they are anticipating a different challenge.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their upcoming fixture against the Edinburgh side, the assistant coach believes that Dougie Samuel’s squad will bring challenges as they will look to overtake the B team in the Lowland League table.
He said: “It’s going to be a real test, when we look at the fixture, we played against them at the beginning of the season, it was away from home and the boys won it. Spartans will have had a good look at us in that game and we’ve obviously had a good look at them, but there’s a lot of water under the bridge in terms of the season and where that’s gone.
“Looking at their team, they’ve got good players and they’re high in the table, I expect them to come and have a real go. It will be an interesting tie; they’ve got good players and they will be dangerous. It’ll be a tough test and on that, we will have to be at our very best to get the result that we would like.”
Gilmour added that the team are enjoying the variety of games across the several competitions on the fixture list and emphasised the value it provides to prepare the young Gers for a first-team environment.
He continued: “I think that it is very enjoyable, we’ve touched on it before that this is a busy period. If you look across the leagues that hopefully the boys will go play, or our first team this is the fixture schedule that they have. That’s the main reason we are here, to go play games.”
The B team assistant coach followed up by stressing the importance of bouncing back following their SPFL Trust Trophy exit against Cove Rangers on Tuesday evening.
He added: “It’s very important to bounce back, but first of all we need to take that one on the chin. It’s not always going to be in your favour and go the way that you would like it to be. There’s a time where we need to stand up and have a good look at it to focus on the parts that we did well and the areas we need to improve on.
“We’re looking for a positive reaction with real energy and edge. If you look back on this season where we have had a small set back, the boys have always responded in a positive fashion. I think the parts I would throw at it would be that positive energy and real edge to the game to start a run of momentum heading into a big month.”
