Brian Gilmour: Team Will Be Tested Mentally

BRIAN Gilmour believes Saturday’s Lowland League fixture will be mentally testing against Berwick Rangers for the B Team.

The Young Gers assistant coach reflected on their victory in the UEFA Youth League and the positive effect that result will have as the squad look to their next game.

Gilmour spoke exclusively to RangersTV ahead of their next league campaign match as they travel over the border to face Stuart Malcolm’s side.

He reflected on Tuesday evenings winning performance against Hammarby and underlined his delight to see some young Gers make their debut in the prestigious competition, saying: “I think looking back we are of course satisfied with the performance and outcome.

“The game performance overall I thought was terrific, a lot of things came together. That showed the level that the players actually reached, to top it off there were some fantastic goals in there as well.

“It’s a testament to the coaching and wider staff that they have had a hand in these younger players development. Being able to see Rory [Wilson] make his debut at that age and at that level as well is really pleasing for him individually.

“Overall, as an Academy it’s always pleasing to see the opportunities that are there for these young players to craft at this type of environment.”

Gilmour also looked ahead to the Light Blues’ next league match as they travel to Shielfield Park to face Berwick Rangers and outlined what the squad is anticipating. He added: “We’re expecting another tough fixture again on the road, we’ve touched on loads about the challenges that comes of this season.

“I think it’ll be a test on the mentality side of it. The boys are ready and prepared, they know what’s coming their way. It’s another tough test but one that we are relishing and looking forward to again.

“There were large parts of the game last week [Gala Fairydean] that were pleasing but there were also parts that we look to try and rectify.

“We need to be clinical in front of goal in the opportunities that we create and take our chances when they come along.”
